Vijay Mallya: Force India needs a bit of extra luck to score a podium place

By Berthold Bouman

Force India just needs a little bit more luck to score that very illusive podium place this season, according to Team Owner and Team Principal Vijay Mallya. “It’s satisfying to see that we are consistent top ten performers. We need that little bit of extra luck to get on the podium,” Mallya said ahead of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

About the past race at Silverstone he stated, “It was certainly frustrating that we didn’t score points at Silverstone. We were really hoping to put on a good performance and were targeting a double points finish.” Force India is still aiming to take sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship at the end of the season, and Mallya commented, “Sauber didn’t get any more points to increase their lead over us. We are still only three points adrift of Williams and 16 behind Sauber, so we have reasons to be optimistic going forward.”

Paul di Resta has spent a few years in Germany racing for Mercedes in the DTM series, and he knows the Hockenheimring well. “I know the track well from my days in the DTM and I am looking forward to getting out there in a Formula One car. It’s a fun circuit with some challenging corners and it’s good for overtaking, especially the slow hairpin at turn six,“ said the Scott.

Just like other drivers he likes the Motodrom, the stadium section, the most. “My favourite part of the lap is the stadium, where you can really feel the energy of the crowd. The double right hander onto the start/finish line is another special corner and it’s difficult to get it right. If you have lots of experience on this track you can gain a little bit of time through this corner.”

For Nico Hulkenberg it will be his home Grand Prix, in the video below he talks about the Hockenheimring and driving in front of a home crowd. Video by Force India.

Force India is eighth in the Constructors’ Championship with 44 points, di Resta is 11th in the Drivers’ Championship with 27 points, while Hulkenberg is 16th with 17 points.
